Festivities At Longbridge Deverill

In the run into Christmas, we've had a whole array of activities and events happening here at Longbridge Deverill Care Home in Warminster. Raising Christmas spirits and enjoying the holiday season.

It's Pantomime Season - "Oh yes it is..."

We kicked off the festive period with two extra special performances, within our very own home, where we invited professional performers down to Longbridge Deverill to perform a familiar favourite "The Wizard of Oz" and "Christmas Extravaganza", both of which gave our residents an afternoon filled with fun and cheer. Reliving the story of Dorothy, was a trip down memory lane for some of our residents. Both performances were outstanding!

Christmas Craft

Christmas creativity has been flowing at Longbridge Deverill, where residents have been enjoying some craft sessions, organised by our activities team. Creating Christmas decorations for the home, Christmas colouring, putting together gift hampers, making Christmas cakes and so much more.

These sessions allow our residents to embrace their creative sides through Arts & Craft.

Festive Furry Friends

Pet Therapy is great throughout the year at Longbridge Deverill. Most recently we welcomed some dogs into our home, who were dressed up in Christmas gear and melted the hearts of our residents and staff.

There are many benefits that Pet Therapy can have on our residents, time with animals can relieve stress and create a calming effect. So we're always happy to see dogs visiting our home.

Christmas Choir Visit

We invited a local primary school down to Longbridge Deverill Nursing Home for an afternoon with our residents. The pupils brought homemade Christmas cards for all of our residents, which they loved to receive. A sing-a-long also took place where both the children and our residents sang their favourite Christmas Carols.

Music not only reduces stress but inspires residents to reminisce and communicate in social environments, improving cognitive skills. This is important for residents who have dementia as it will create positive memories and instil a sense of identity.

Christmas Party Time

And of course, it wouldn't be Christmas without a party! Residents and staff gathered together to enjoy a day of singing, dancing and jiving with some live entertainment, playing a variety of festive and party hits.

And no party is complete without festive food, we had a variety of Christmas snacks and drinks for all to enjoy. It was a great day for everyone involved, and a wonderful event set up by our activities coordinators.

The Importance Of Christmas Activities

Christmas time is the time of giving cheer and offering hope to all. All the activities during this period had the intention of inclusion, creative expression, and showing unconditional love and acceptance, along with the cheerful atmosphere that prevailed.

Residents have felt included in the preparations for the Christmas festivities, with creativity, reminiscences and cheerful music playing as well as playing games, which all help with wellbeing and social inclusion.

Our activities team are always looking for new ways to keep residents active, and are always asking residents if there are any specific things they would like Longbridge Deverill to organise for them to enjoy. Organising these activities ensures a happy and healthy environment here at Longbridge Deverill Care Home.
