A Day in the Life – Getting to Know the Person Behind the Resident

One of the most rewarding parts of the Activities Team's role is getting to know our residents as individuals. Every resident has a unique story to tell, filled with achievements, adventures, interests, careers, hobbies, and treasured memories.
We love spending time listening to residents talk about their lives and experiences. These conversations help us create meaningful, person-centred activities that reflect what is important to each individual. They also help us build relationships and ensure residents continue to enjoy the things that have brought them happiness throughout their lives.
Over the coming months, we are compiling a special "A Day in the Life" profile for every resident in our home. These profiles celebrate who our residents are, where they have been, and what continues to bring them joy today.

Brian has a lifelong passion for fast motorbikes and enjoys talking about bikes, racing, and motorsport. Whilst Brian prefers not to participate in most organised group activities, he enjoys spending time in the garden, often relaxing outdoors and occasionally helping to keep the garden tidy.
Through meaningful conversations, Activities Coordinator Glynn discovered just how important motorbikes are to Brian. As a result, Glynn has arranged for a monthly motorbike magazine for Brian to enjoy, giving them plenty to chat about together.

The magazine trips have become much more than simply buying a publication. They provide an opportunity for Brian to get out into the local community, browse the shops, enjoy a sociable coffee, and spend quality one-to-one time discussing a subject he is passionate about.
We're also excited that Brian and Glynn will be attending a local bike racing event in July – an experience that reflects Brian's interests and supports his wellbeing through meaningful engagement and community involvement.
This is a wonderful example of how activities don't always have to happen in a group setting. Sometimes the most meaningful moments come from understanding what matters to a person and helping them continue to enjoy the things they love.
